Kino Cove Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 10, 2026
Kino Cove LLC ("Kino Cove," "we," "us") makes a household resilience app. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Kino Cove LLC, a California limited liability company. Questions about this policy or your information: info@kinocove.com.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Authentication is handled by Supabase, our backend provider. We do not collect a name or payment details at signup.
Information you enter to build your resilience plan. The app works by letting you record details about your household so it can tailor guidance. Depending on what you choose to enter, this can include:
Your name and the names of household members
Home and work addresses
Phone numbers for household members and emergency contacts
ZIP code
Pets, evacuation and rally points, and circle-of-care contacts
Health-related information you choose to record, including blood type, medications, medical conditions, allergies, and access needs
Insurance details you choose to record, including provider names and policy numbers
You decide what to enter. Most fields are optional. Health and insurance details exist so your household plan and medical-info records are useful to you in a disruption; you are never required to provide them to use the app.
Location. The app uses your ZIP code to retrieve local hazard, weather, and air-quality information. The app does not access your device's location in the background. With your permission, the app uses your device's location only in two cases you control: to include your location in an emergency Status Blast you send from Crisis Mode, so your contacts know where you are, and, where available, to tag a Valuables Vault item with its location. You can turn off location sharing for the Status Blast in Settings.
Documents and media. Photos, documents, and videos you add to the Valuables Vault are saved on your device and stored in your household's private storage with Supabase, so members of your household can open them on their own devices. Only members of your household can access these files. If you tag an item with its location, the location is saved with the item and visible to your household.
Analytics and diagnostics. We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and to capture errors and crashes, so we can keep the app reliable and decide what to improve. This runs on the mobile app and the web. It records app events such as opening the app, completing onboarding, and finishing a plan section, and once you sign in it associates those events with your account and household so we can measure your progress over time. This is first-party product analytics and reliability monitoring for our own use. We do not use advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How your information is stored and synced
The details you enter are saved on your device and backed up in our Supabase database so you can restore them if you change devices. Records that belong to your household as a whole, such as your resilience plan, travel plans, and Valuables Vault items, are shared with the members of your household. Personal records, such as your circle-of-care contacts and medical profiles, are backed up to your own account and are accessible only to you. Row-level security enforces this: the database returns shared household records only to members of that household, and personal records only to their owner.
How we use information
To build and save your household resilience plan and records
To show local hazard, weather, air-quality, and disaster information for your area
To let you back up and restore your data across devices
To send app-related communications you have asked for
To keep the app reliable and fix errors
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for third-party advertising.
Third parties that help run the app
We share information only as needed to operate the app. We do not control the privacy practices of the public data services we query.
Supabase — account authentication and secure storage of your backed-up data
PostHog — product analytics and error/reliability monitoring (mobile and web)
MapTiler — maps and address lookup; when you enter an address, the address text and coordinates are sent to find and display the location
Resend — delivery of account emails, such as your sign-in link; receives your email address
Expo — delivery of the push notifications you turn on; handles your device's push token
Public data services we query for hazard, weather, and air-quality information using your ZIP or its coordinates: the NOAA National Weather Service (weather.gov), FEMA (OpenFEMA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS earthquake feed), EPA AirNow (air quality), the NIFC active-fire feed (wildfire incidents), Zippopotam.us (ZIP-to-coordinates lookup), and the OpenStreetMap Overpass service (to find nearby facilities). These queries send location coordinates derived from your ZIP, not your identity.
Your choices and rights
You can edit or delete the information in your profile within the app at any time. You can delete your account and its associated data directly in the app, under Settings → Account → Delete account, or by contacting info@kinocove.com.
Because Kino Cove LLC is based in California, California residents have specific rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, and rights regarding sensitive personal information (which includes the health and precise-location data described above).
Children
People must be at least 13 to use the app, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian's agreement, as set out in the Terms of Service. The app is not directed to children under 13.
Data retention
We keep your backed-up data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete the associated data.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as the app changes and revise the date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app.
